At the September luncheon, the Austin Commercial Real Estate Society and the Downtown Austin Alliance gave a report on how the capital city fairs. Stretching north to south from MLK Jr. Boulevard to Ladybird Lake and east to west from Lamar Boulevard to Interstate Highway 35, downtown Austin’s land area is only a tiny bit of the metro area that serves the city. Currently, however, the .05% hosts 5.1 million unique visitors annually and is the heart of one of the fastest growing job markets in the nation (Wall Street Journal). Many of these visitors choose to remain in the capital city, contributing to the Metro area’s rapid growth. The U.S. News and World Report of July 2021 ranked Austin among the top 5 best places to live. Four reasons given for this trend that is predicted to continue rising according to the report:

1. Austin is centered between 3 of the largest cities in the country

2. The heart of one of the fastest growing metro regions in the country

3. Easy access to an expanding international airport

4. The city is home to more and more highly educated talent*

In Austin, more than 50% of the adult population (25+) holds a bachelor’s degree or higher, giving the city a strong workforce. According to a Workforce Solutions article, Austin’s unemployment rate is currently 3.1%, lower than the averages of both the state and that of the U.S. Over the past year (June 2021 to June 2022) the metro area added approximately 75,000 jobs, making this a great time to invest in the growing city.
