The Texas capital ranked No. 7 in a new study of artificial intelligence job markets, with strong growth and high job concentration
Austin — known colloquially as Silicon Hills thanks to the area’s bustling tech sector — is among the top U.S. metro areas for artificial intelligence jobs, a study suggests
It ranked seventh overall among U.S. metropolitan areas in a new AI job market study by CoworkingCafé. San Antonio ranked No. 21.
The flex office space listing service evaluated more than 300 U.S. metropolitan areas using six indicators of the AI job market: job postings, average salary, concentration measures, regional price parity, fiber coverage and coworking spaces.
Unsurprisingly, San Jose, Calif. — the heart of Silicon Valley — topped the list as the anchor of the nation’s AI economy. AI work in the area is about six times the national average. But New York is passing Silicon Valley for hiring volume, with the metro coming in second overall.
Dallas was the highest-ranked Texas metro, coming in fifth overall, thanks to a more affordable environment. The area added more than 6,000 AI jobs between Nov. 2024 and Nov. 2025, with an average salary of $128,572, much lower than Silicon Valley. The study included Fort Worth as part of the greater Dallas metropolitan area.
The metro area is home to the second-largest primary data center market in the U.S., meaning many tech companies are investing in the area with new construction and job growth.
But Austin is close behind. The San Antonio-Austin region is the top secondary data center market in the U.S., and could soon surpass Dallas and Virginia as a primary market thanks to significant developments currently planned or under construction and increased infrastructure investment.
Austin added about 3,765 new AI jobs between Nov. 2024 and Nov. 2025, ranking ninth in the metric and seventh overall. The area came in fifth for AI job concentration, with about double the national share of employment. The area’s AI jobs had an average salary of $130,439. The study included Round Rock and Georgetown as part of the greater Austin metropolitan area.
The greater Austin area is home to several tech companies with AI roles. Tesla, Dell Technologies and Oracle have their headquarters in the area and a heavy concentration of AI-related roles. Several other tech companies — Indeed, Meta, Apple, Google, Nvidia, Samsung, IBM, AMD and more — also have offices in the area with AI-related roles.
